FORMER and current Gawler East Pri-
mary School staff, students and parents
enjoyed two days of events celebrating the
school's 50th anniversary last week.
Celebrations began last Friday and kicked
off at the school with an assembly and musical
performances by current students.
This was followed by a performance from the
SA Police School Beat Band and a commemo-
rative tree-planting by the youngest and oldest
students currently enrolled at the school.
Former teacher Brian Burt, who spent 14
years at the school before retiring in 1995, was
impressed with the hundreds of people who
turned out to mark the occasion.
"I was absolutely delighted with it and I
think anyone who is associated with the school
was delighted with it," Mr Burt said.
"The performances by the kids were abso-
lutely brilliant and the police band was fantas-
