Explore what SA has to offer
AN Aldinga Beach family has
chosen the Barossa Valley as a
holiday destination at the same
time the State Government
launched a campaign to encour-
age South Australians to explore
their own backyards and travel
within the state.
The State Government's cam-
paign, launched late last month, is
on the back of its 'I Choose SA'
initiative, aimed at encouraging
locals to support local business.
The latest initiative aims to
increase intrastate visitation
numbers, after its own statistics
showed that the amount of South
Australians travelling their own
backyards had decreased.
The campaign involves televi-
sion commercials featuring well-
known hotels and discovery parks
from around the state.
Aldinga Beach resident Hannah
Galliford enjoyed a short stay at
Discovery Parks Barossa Valley
last week with her family, includ-
ing daughters Marley and Asher.
She said it was the perfect time
to relax and get away.
"We are just here for three days,
it is just enough time to get away
and enjoy some time as a family,"
"Most of our time will likely be
spent in the water park."
Tourism Minister Leon Bignell
said there is so much to choose
from in South Australia, and that
there is a holiday spot for every
family, couple or friends group.
"South Australia was named as
one of the top five regions in the
world to visit in 2017 by Lonely
Planet, proving there's no need to
visit places like Bali or Thailand
when we have some of the best
beaches in the world right here in
South Australia," he said.
"It could be as simple as book-
ing a spot at your local caravan
park or taking a road-trip across
the state to a region you've never
Discovery Parks Barossa Valley
park manager Jacky Jones said she
welcomed the campaign, although
is already positive about how
many intrastate travellers visit the
local holiday facility.
"We would be pushing towards
an upward of 70 per cent of our
visitors (coming from anywhere
within South Australia)," she said.
"We have a lot of people come
from Melbourne and Sydney, but
we also have people coming from
across South Australia, and even
the local region.
"We find that being in the centre
of the Barossa, people can decide
what they would like to do, wheth-
er it be visit wineries, enjoy food
"They can really base them-
selves here and then branch out."
According to Mrs Jones, the
park, the region and, more widely,
the state continue to be popular for
travellers because of the multitude
of accommodation options.

Barossa Valley recently.
