THIS great country will be celebrating Australia
Day in just over one week and -- whether it's
beaching, barbecuing or attending one of the many
events on locally and around the state -- there's
plenty on to make you feel true blue.
The Triple J hottest 100 will provide the backdrop
sound to many backyard get-togethers or pool parties.
Hundreds of thousands of people will be listening as
the station counts down to reveal the hottest track of
the year, as voted for by the public.
Sun out or not, you can bet even more will flock to
our great beaches, as part of an Aussie Day tradition.
There will be flying of the Aussie flag and chants of
"Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi" as people come
together in a friendly game of beach cricket.
Official ceremonies will kick off at the Glenelg
foreshore from 9am, while nearby Semaphore
will host the 'Tandanya Survival Day' event from
Closer to home, each council will put on an event
to formally announce their Australia Day award
recipients and welcome new Australian citizens.
Gawler's event will again be held at Apex Park and,
starting at 7am, it will include a hearty Australian
breakfast for a gold coin donation.
Light Regional Council's event will be held at the
Kapunda Trotting Track this year, from 7.45am.
It will feature a free breakfast from 9am and a
performance by KaDenCe choir.
A free family fun day, featuring games, entertainment
and a free barbecue, will be on in Freeling from
noon, thanks to a grant through the State Emergency
Barossa Council will host a free breakfast in
Tanunda, from 8.30am, with the Tanunda Town
Band to provide the music and the formal part of the

Time to celebrate
MEDIA personality Peter Goers will
be one of three official Australia Day
ambassadors selected to attend celebratory
events locally on January 26.
Mr Goers, who is the current host of
'The Evening Show' on 891 ABC Radio
Adelaide, will head out to Adelaide Plains
Council's Australia Day event, at Mallala
Oval, where he will talk about what it means
to be an Australian.
"I've appeared in Two Wells, but never
Mallala, and I've always enjoyed visiting
the area. I'll be very pleased to be there
representing the Australia Day Council," he
"I'll be talking about what it is to be
an Australian and, if there are any new
Australians, I'll welcome them, which I
think is very important.
"They need to understand a few things
about Australia: for example, it's the only
country in the world where, if you say, 'oh,
g'day, you old bastard', that's a term of
Mr Goers said he is honoured to have been
accepted for the position as ambassador
again this year.
"Being an Australian defines me and defines
all of us," he said.
"And, I think, as much as we love to go to
other places, we love to come home.
"I think we live in one of the most
interesting and promising places on earth."
Fellow ambassador Rob Morrison OAM
will this year attend the Playford Council
Australia Day event in Elizabeth.
Dr Morrison has written 31 books
and co-written 13 others on science
and natural history and helped
established Adelaide's SciWorld
Also known as the former host
of the Curiosity Show, Dr
Morrison was named
Senior Australian of the
Year (South Australia)
Victoria Cox will
attend as an Australia
at Tanunda, for the
Barossa Council event.
Dr Cox is currently
a medical resident at
Tutor at Flinders Medical School and has
been heavily involved with a number of
charitable and community organisations
Last year she was awarded a scholarship
to study a public health masters at Oxford
University, focusing on the development
and implementation of community
healthcare programs in rural
areas of Australia.
In total, there will be more
than 30 prominent South
Australians involved as
at Australia Day
celebrations across the
True blue ambassadors
