were acknowledged in the CFS
regional awards ceremony, held at
the Hewitson Theatre last Friday
The event recognised the bravery
of those who have been serving their
communities and volunteers from
around the state and they were presented
with a range of medals and awards for

recognition was Gawler River District
unit member Brian Turner.
Mr Turner has been a CFS volunteer
for about 17 years and was presented
with a national medal.
The national medals are part of the
Australian honours system, which has
been awarded since 1975.
“It was nice to win the national medal,
which is for 15 or more years of service,”
Mr Turner said.

THE Philmac Project is opening grants for
community groups undertaking water-related
A total of $30,000 and $5000 worth of product is
being offered with individual grants of up to $5000
to local organisations.
“It is becoming increasingly difficult for
community groups to source money for smaller,
local projects and that is who we aim to help,”

restaurant to raise funds for Ronald McDonald
Residents can buy, sign and display a Helping
Hand at their local fast-food restaurant from
Wednesday, October 1, to Saturday, October 18.
The funds raised allow families with children in
hospitals to have a break from the stress of spending
hours by their child’s bedside.
